Description

Matthew Sokolowski has been able to achieve what most Canadian boys can only dream about; winning a Stanley Cup. That he has achieved this goal twice is doubly impressive. "Matt" was a multi-sport athlete as a youth growing up on the Miramichi. He was a talented hockey player and had a deep passion for the game. A graduate of James M. Hill High School, he went on to Dalhousie University, where he obtained a degree in Kenesiology. Upon graduating in 1992, Matthew landed a job as Head Athletic Trainer for the Halifax Citadels, the AHL affiliate of the Quebec Nordiques. After serving in this role in Halifax and with the Cornwall Aces for three years, he was promoted to the Quebec Nordiques in 1994 as Assistant Athletic Trainer. In 1995, the club was transferred to Denver, Colorado and became the Avalanche. Matthew moved with them and later became head of the team's medical staff, and continues in that role to this day. He got his first Stanley Cup ring in the 1995-96 season and then again in 2000-01. Matthew is a member of the National Trainers Association (NATA) and the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society (PHATS). He is also a nationally registered EMT.
